Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affect one in four people at some time in their life (1), and these symptoms vary from person to person with no two people experience the same effects. 50% of patients that are referred to Gastroenterologists are diagnosed with IBS. The condition usually begins in young people, usually below the age of 40 and often in the teenage years (1).

There are many contributing factors to IBS such as stress, diet, intolerance to any one food type and prolonged use of antibiotics which can affect the good bacteria in the gut. We use the latest gut-directed and gut-specific techniques which have proven to significantly improve peoples symptoms.(2) Benefits of this programme include:

  • Hypnotherapy deals with the underlying stress and establishes if there is a mind-body link.(1)

  • Gut-directed and gut-specific hypnotherapy significantly improves people's symptoms (2)

  • Hypnotherapy is a natural and non-invasive choice of treatment

  • Using hypnotherapy is more cost effective (for doctors and patients) than taking medications in the long term

  • Hypnotherapy has been used for the last 20 years to treat IBS (1).

After the hypnotherapy programme, many people find that they can gradually reduce the prescribed drugs with their Doctors consent(1).

Before we start with your treatment, we offer an initial consultation and this is time for us to get to know one another and for you ask any questions you have. This initial consultation is also time for us to discuss your symptoms and to establish the best techniques to treat your IBS. We will also look at your lifestyle, including what you eat, then we are able to tailor a programme to your specific needs and requirements as symptoms vary from person to person.

During the sessions we will be looking at your diet as this affects the way the gut works and is a major factor with IBS. We look at specific areas in your life where you would benefit from greater relaxation and calmness and hypnosis is one great way to relax!

Some of the sessions are recorded so that you can go into hypnosis while you listen to the recordings in your own time and continue the work from the sessions.

Local Gastroenterologists (Private and NHS) and doctors keep details of this programme for people who are diagnosed with IBS.

Hypnotherapy is an effective way to treat the symptoms of IBS and has helped many clients to feel significantly better, physically, mentally and emotionally (1).
